If I can ever engineer a way to be mentioned in the same thread as Meades, it fills me with unparalleled joy. He also favoured 'douce'... which actually gives me happy little shivers.

The Gurnards Head, is my favourite place to eat when in Cornwall, SW Cornwall is so less pretentious than the realms of Polzeath Rock and Padstein. Regardless of the time of year (we never venture there in August) the welcome is always reassuringly warm and unencumbered. Casual and relaxed. Dress up or dress down - no one cares.

You can bring the dog and park them under your table. But the Plaice (and that sauce), every time and I can’t not have it, served on a Leach pottery stoneware plate, perfection.

It never disappoints!

My best friend and I went through a phase of describing things as jejune in our pretentious teens. The irony was lost on us at the time.

Tim loving your unctuous vim & rambunctious vigour on whim...can plaice really ever be voluptuous...quite often has about much flavour as microwaved cous cous...also tickled by your effin n jeffin...and as for cheffing...Max is in the house with know how & nous Kernow on a plate with just the right amount of wow & kapow (nearby Tinners Arms also a hallowed place to calm ones qualms)...ta muchly Tim...

Always wanted to visit the Gurnards Head, must try harder to do so.

Jejune always makes me think of Jonathan Meades who used it from time to time in his restaurant reviews.

We've done all three of their establishments - the Old Coastguard in Mousehole being a favourite for a winter break. Similarly, the food is *so* good.
